What You'll See:
This sequence provides a great example of several things:
1. Knowing WHAT you’re saying and WHY you’re saying gives you the confidence to know that when – not if – things don’t go originally as expected, you can adjust accordingly;
2. When – not if – things don’t work with your original calling efforts, having confidence knowing what you’re saying can help you choose “Plan B” calling strategies better;
3. Having the patience to work a good set-up and let things play out before moving can pay big dividends; and
4. The “Doorway” Principle and the fact that elk KNOW WHERE YOU ARE when you’re calling to them are two constants that should never be ignored but rather embraced. …and when you embrace them, you can put elk in your lap time and time again!
Setting the Stage:
The morning after calling in "Captain Hook,"Chris set out to find him again. Just before daybreak, in the area “Captain Hook” was last seen and heard heading into, Chris set out after a promising sounding bull, but as he worked in closer, he realized not only was he actually dealing with two bulls, but one or more cows as well. When things suddenly go quiet, patience, and an adjustment in the vocalizations he was using, finally put a bull within seven steps! Call ‘em to Your Toes!
Viewing / Listening Tips:
For this sequence, be careful when wearing headphones/ear-buds–specifically when Chris is in camera frame, or the bull is on camera. At these times, Chris’ calling, and the bull’s bugles, can be QUITE loud in comparison to the rest of the audio in the video.
